Multi-Product Integration

Key Challenges

InvestTech was engaged by a $15 billion asset manager to integrate Thomson’s PORTIA, Bloomberg POMS and Wall Street Office. The client selected Wall Street Office for their loan book of business while continuing to use PORTIA for their high yield fixed income asset class business. Since the clients’ portfolio asset mix spawned multiple security types, integration was required from Bloomberg POMS to Wall Street Office for the fixed income transactions and from Wall Street Office to PORTIA for the loans.

InvestTech Solution

InvestTech augmented the tool set provided to the client in as part of a previous engagement to implement Bloomberg POMS was installed and integrated to PORTIA using both Bloomberg’s Gateway and Thomson’s AIM. InvestTech’s integration work for this project was to generate XML messages that are spawned from the Bloomberg Gateway data to comply with the specifications of the Wall Street Office Trade Interface application. Additionally, the integration required building Wall Street Office data extracts for the loan securities, transactions and prices and mapping these data fields to PORTIA by enhancing Thomson’s AIM application. Lastly InvestTech customized a reconciliation tool to compare and contrast the holdings between PORTIA, POMS and Wall Street Office and generate reconciling transactions to the required system.

Results

InvestTech’s integration skill sets and knowledge of multiple applications, including the functional capabilities of Bloomberg POMS, Thomson PORTIA and Wall Street Office and an overall understanding of data needs for these applications facilitated the analysis and integration efforts.
